Uzhgorod has a lot of preserved architectural ensembles and unique houses - architectural monuments of state and local significance. Among the most captivating sacral buildings in Uzhgorod are the Holy Cross Cathedral and the elegant Roman Catholic Church of St. George, which was built on the ruins of a Lutheran church. During the tour you will cross a picturesque Pedestrian Bridge over the Uzh River and walk in the shades of trees through a lovely Linden Alley. You will explore the center of the city and its main street – Korzo. You’ll find a lot of gift shops, cafés and restaurants there and when the tour is over, you may visit them in your free time.

Uzhhorod Castle- one of the most ancient medieval fortifications on the territory of Ukraine. Despite its venerable age, it is perfectly preserved and is reckoned among the most famous and frequently visited castles in Ukraine. In its current form, the castle was rebuilt after 1322, when the town became a possession of the noble family of Drugeths.

From 1947 to nowadays, the collection of the Museum of Transcarpathian History, numbering over one hundred thousand unique exhibits, is located here. Museum offers detailed information on city and castle history. Moreover, the Museum keeps one of the largest collections of bronze items in Ukraine. Coins and cold steel and firearms, dated to the 14th – early 20th centuries, are of great value. Castle cellars feature the exposition «Torture Chamber,» which shows exhibits, recreated after medieval drawings and engravings. In addition, there is a tasting room for the famous Zakarpattia wines.

Near the Castle of Uzhgorod there is situated the open air Museum of the folk architecture.

Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Life – a stylized ethnic village located in the heart of Uzhgorod. Original wooden buildings still stand here, representing the ethnic traditions of different nations that inhabited Transcarpatian region. The Museum has an original planning: all ancient buildings are joined together in one harmonic architectural ensemble, which fully corresponds to Transcarpathia region’s landscape. Skansen’s territory includes seven manors, six dwelling houses, buildings of ancient church, bell tower, school, and many household buildings: watermill, smithy, apiary and others. All local structures are true masterpieces of the folk architecture. The main treasure of the museum – St. Michael's wooden church from the 18th century, with its uncanny architecture.

This is one of the few surviving 17th-century wine cellars. After more than 300 years, this old cellar again used for wine storage. They produce dry vintage wines from different varieties of local grapes Muscat Ottonel, Limberger, Tsveygelt, Cuvee, Zengo, Müller-Thurgau and others using traditional ancient technologies. All finished wines are aged in oak barrels. This helps to preserve the natural flavor of the grapes. The result is a drink with a unique range of flavors that can give a lot of pleasant moments. It is worth visiting the connoisseurs of fine wines, as well as wishing to just relax in the new place for themselves. The tour in the wine cellar includes familiarity with the technologies of production of wines and wine tasting with natural juice and foods.

Shoenborn Castle was built in the 19th century as a hunting lodge of the counts Shoenborn. Hunting was always a popular entertainment with aristocracy, and the Carpathians with their untouched nature and wildlife were extremely suitable for hunters. Austrian masters the Schoenborns, had taken fancy to hunting near the village of Chinadievo. For that purpose, they first built a wooden hunting seat, which was changed into a palace in 1890. The palace is built in the style of Romanticism with elements of gothic, the architectural trend fashionable at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries.

Between spire-topped towers there are high funnels. It is interesting that their number corresponds with the number of weeks in a year — 52, while there are 365 windows in the palace, and 12 entrances (equal to the number of days and months in a year, accordingly). No doubt this original idea corresponds with the spirit of Romanticism too.

A large and picturesque park is laid out around the tie, with beeches, spruces, sakuras, cork pines, and other rare trees planted here. Today, a sanatorium «Karpaty» operates in this castle. Here you’ll enjoy the healing Carpathian air, relaxing atmosphere of blooming park, and become more young and beautiful with sip of water from «Spring of beauty».

Mukachevo is an ancient cozy little city. Historians precise information about the start of its history, though it is known that by the 10th and 11th centuries, it was already a developed part of the Kyivan Rus.

A special place among the city’s sights belongs to the Saint Nicholas Monastery, the oldest in Zakarpattia, founded in the 11th century. Other examples of sacral architecture include the Dormitory Church, with its elegant sternness, and the ancient gothic St Martin Catholic Church, whose walls have preserved their original medieval paintings. Mukachevo’s real gem is the Town Hall, built in the early 20th century. It is a gorgeous building that used to be recognized as one of the most beautiful in Europe; even today it will easily outshine its European contemporaries.

During a walking tour of the city center, you will also discover the Myru Square, the monument to St. Cyril and Methodius and the Chimney Sweep Monument.

The main attraction of Mukachevo is, without a doubt, an amazing Palanok Castle. Situated on a high hill on the outskirts of the city, this fabulous castle offers a wonderful view of the city from the observation deck.

On the top of the hill there stands the oldest part of the castle formed in the 15th century called «upper castle», while on the terraces beneath it there are «middle» and «lower» castles built in the middle of the 17th century. Bastions surround each castle, and there are fortified gates leading to the middle and lower castles, with bridges crossing wide moats. Mukachevo castle is an impregnable fortress, and not for once has it been the last unconquered place in the Transcarpathian land.

Since 1989, castle premises are occupied by Mukachevo History Museum, where over ten interesting expositions are shown. The picture gallery featuring the best canvases by west-Ukrainian painters and ancient icons is also located here.
